Phoenix School and Apasen International have been working together since 2015 to increase and improve education and health services for poor and marginalised children with a diagnosis of autism or other neurodevelopmental disabilities in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Building on previous fact finding missions to Bangladesh, in January 2017 a team of senior trainers from Phoenix and Apasen visited Sylhet and Dhaka for two weeks for provide teacher training and support to four community special schools and strengthen relationships with the Government of Bangladesh and other stakeholders.
Both organisations gained a deeper understanding of the special education needs of children from poor households in Sylhet – and the main barriers to the provision of these services. The report was jointly produced and captures the learning from the training and feedback.

The visit confirmed Phoenix and Apasen’s commitment to establishing a model school for autism in Sylhet that would act as a beacon of best practice to help raise standards in special schools across the country.
