Apasen International initiates ‘Bangladesh Appeal’

On 1 November 2018, Apasen International will organise a fundraising event as a part of Apasen’s first ever care conference. Whilst this will be a celebration of the carers’ contribution to help reach and change the lives of many it would also launch an appeal for children with learning disabilities in Bangladesh. Apasen International intends to raise funds to establish urgently needed local day care centres for vulnerable children with learning disabilities, autism, and other special needs in the slums and poor rural communities of Bangladesh. Depending on the unique needs of vulnerable children, a team of specially trained female teachers, therapists, and care assistants will provide:

  • Specialised learning spaces and essential equipment
  • Regular speech and physiotherapy
  • Safe and fun environment
  • Recreation and sport
  • A break from caring for families
  • Activities with children in mainstream schools
  • Links to specialised medical units

The centre acts as both a community school and a health care facility. Within a short period of time, the children make rapid improvements in their behaviour and abilities. This ground-breaking programme aims to build children’s courage and inner strength by promoting specialised learning and recreation activities, while also providing some respite for parents. Mahmud Hasan MBE, the Chief Executive of Apasen International, says:

‘‘In Bangladesh, there is a severe lack of medical infrastructure and skilled professionals needed to treat children and adolescents with these kinds of conditions. Apasen International has been set up to provide learning and medical supports to vulnerable children, as well as train teachers to build support activities into their curriculum. Our expert staff will work with parents and caregivers so they can recognise signs of distress in their children and provide comfort and support.’’
