Apasen International recently organised a two-day programme, consisting of an Open Day and a Day Trip, held on January 16th and 17th, 2024. This initiative underscores the organisation’s continuous dedication to supporting special children since 2019. The collaborative effort of Apasen Day Care and Phoenix School contributed to the success of the event. The chosen theme, “Apasen Shines Light on Abilities: A Day of Recognition, Celebration, and Exhibition,” resonates with the organisation’s commitment to acknowledging and showcasing the abilities of their learners.
The inaugural ceremony, presided by Shah Al Masud Rana, the Country Director of Apasen International, Bangladesh, set the stage for an enriching experience. Special guests, including Professor Md. Mizanur Rahman, Head of the Department of Social Work at SUST, and Nibash Ranjan Das, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Office in Sylhet, graced the occasion. They emphasized the importance of recognising and respecting the rights of differently-abled individuals, applauding Apasen’s dedication to this cause.
The programme featured various activities such as discussion sessions, a parents’ gathering, cultural performances, and an exhibition showcasing the learners’ achievements. The cultural event was a highlight, with learners showcasing their talents through dance, singing, poetry recitation, and even a fashion show. The performances left a lasting impression, reinforcing the notion that these individuals are truly differently-abled but equally talented.
The exhibition displayed the diverse activities and vocational works created by the special children, highlighting their skills and capabilities. Additionally, stalls were set up to sell products crafted by the learners, including various food items, showcasing their creativity and contributing to the sustainability of the organisation.
On the second day, a delightful day trip to an amusement park near the city was organised for the learners. This excursion provided an enjoyable experience for the children, and a game for parents and teachers added to the festive atmosphere. The event concluded with the distribution of gifts to all learners and parents, creating lasting memories for everyone involved.
Swarna Moye Sarker, the Project Coordinator, played a key role in coordinating the entire programme, working closely with Phoenix teachers, care officers, and administrative staff. The success of these two days was not only evident in the joy experienced by the learners but also in the appreciation expressed by parents. Apasen International continues to shine a light on the abilities of differently-abled individuals, making a meaningful impact on their lives.
